  1. Add coaching skills to your repertoire.
  2. Give critical, as well as positive, feedback.
  3. When coaching men, give the critical feedback first.
  4. Take a stand.
  5. Communicate ideas in a concise, focused manner.
  6. Lighten up occasionally.
  7. Reduce visual distraction and err on the side of conservative. (As Sigourney Weave said to Melanie Griffith in Working Girl: "I’d rethink the jewelry.")
  8. Make a lot of eye contact.
  9. Think and talk about the future.
  10. Don’t let who you have been interfere with what you can be.
